The Guilford County Coalition on Infant Mortality’s Adopt-A-Mom Program is offering a two-day educational program for all moms and moms-to-be on Monday, April 6 and Thursday, April 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at The Women’s Hospital of Greensboro, 801 Green Valley Road.  The sessions will be held in rooms 1 & 2 just inside the Education Entrance.  Women interested in learning about preconception, prenatal, and postpartum health, including family planning, are invited to attend. Husbands and partners are invited also.  Childcare will be provided.  The sessions are free, but space is limited.  Registration is required.  To register, call 641-7531. Participants are encouraged to attend both dates. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Door prizes will be given.

This educational program is paid for by the NC Healthy Start Foundation through a grant awarded to the Guilford County Coalition on Infant Mortality. Special thanks is also offered to Kelly Dixon, NP, MSN and the Moses Cone~Wesley Long Community Health Foundation.

The Adopt-A-Mom Program is sponsored by the Guilford County Coalition on Infant Mortality. This program coordinates prenatal care for low to medium-risk pregnant women who are not eligible for Medicaid, who do not have private insurance to cover the cost of prenatal care, and who do not have the financial resources to pay for prenatal care.

In order to enroll in the Adopt-A-Mom Program, women should call (336) 641-7513 to schedule an appointment with an Adopt-A-Mom Coordinator.  The following items are needed at the time of the appointment:
• Written proof of pregnancy from a doctor or clinic
• Photo ID or birth certificate or passport of mom-to-be
• Proof of current address in Guilford County
• $100 enrollment fee, cash or money order. (This ultimately goes to the practice as part of the $400 paid by the Coalition for Adopt-A-Mom client)

For more information about these sessions, the Adopt-A-Mom Program or the Guilford County Coalition on Infant Mortality, call Guilford County Department of Public Health at 641-7777 or visit www.guilfordhealth.org and click on Health and Wellness.
