In 2008, Guilford County Department of Public announced receipt of a Duke Endowment grant to create an educational campaign called “Don’t Wait…Educate!” on the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and the HPV vaccine.  During Phase I of the grant, educational programs were presented to parents and educators at the middle school level, healthcare providers, and teens/pre-teens through community-based organizations, successfully reaching over 3,500 adults and youth in Guilford County.  The education programs increased awareness and knowledge about HPV and the HPV vaccine, dispelled many myths about HPV transmission, and encouraged parents to consider the HPV vaccine for their daughters and discuss it with their healthcare provider.
