On Thursday, June 2, the Guilford County Board of County Commissioners appointed two local health professionals to Guilford County’s Health Board: Christopher Dooley and Linda Wilson. These individuals were officially welcomed to the Board of Health at its July 18th meeting in High Point. Guilford County Department of Public Health continues to offer the QuitSmart® smoking cessation program in both Greensboro and High Point. This program is open to any Guilford County adult resident. The program consists of a series of classes; one class per week for four weeks. There is no cost to the participants for the program or materials. Class size is limited to 12 participants. Registration is required. To register to attend a program in Greensboro, call Kim Herzing at 420-0933 (until August 30) or 641-3723 (on or after September 1) or Catherine Richardson at 641-4718. Call Cindy Simpson at 641-7654 to register for a High Point program. These QuitSmart® classes are funded by the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. QuitSmart® utilizes many different techniques and has been proven to be more effective than other stop-smoking programs. GREENSBORO — The Guilford County Department of Public Health learned this morning that the N.C. Court of Appeals has upheld the constitutionality of the private club definition – which distinguishes between nonprofit and for profit private clubs – in North Carolina’s smoke-free restaurants and bars law in a case brought by a Greensboro business. |

     Guilford County Department of Public Health is alerting residents that a fox found on Hicone Road in northeast Guilford County tested positive for the rabies virus on July 19, 2011. This is the eighth case of confirmed animal rabies in 2011. The fox had contact with one dog. (more…) |
