Solid waste is an important topic in North Carolina. As landfill capacity becomes scarce, effective planning and management of garbage and trash become critical for minimizing both the environmental and the economic impact for residents and businesses alike. The State of North Carolina tasks each of its 100 counties to produce an updated solid waste management plan at least every three years. Plans are required to address all aspects of solid waste management, including collection, disposal, illegal dumping, disaster response and recycling.
Guilford County adopted its 2009 Solid Waste Management Plan Update on June 4th, 2009 (click here to see the complete 2009 plan document). The plan incorporates input from the public and from elected and appointed officials representing Guilford County, the cities of Archdale, Greensboro and High Point and the towns of Gibsonville, Jamestown, Oak Ridge, Pleasant Garden, Sedalia, Stokesdale, Summerfield and Whitsett.
We would like to thank those members of the public who took the time to e-mail ideas and concerns relating to solid waste during the development of the 2009 plan update.
