Spring and summer in our state means lots of fresh, locally grown vegetables and fruits. Whether you have your own garden or visit one of our local farmers markets, there is no better time for great eating than right now. Want a sweet treat? Strawberries, blueberries or melons answer that call. Thanks to the cucumbers, onions, tomatoes and peppers we grow, we can enjoy homemade pickles and salsa.
In season and locally grown foods are less expensive. That’s reason enough to eat “fresh.” Plus, they taste better and if we grill, bake, roast or sauté our vegetables, we enjoy more of the health benefits. Corn on the cob and sliced tomatoes right off the vine are quickly prepared additions to a meal that get the cook out of the kitchen faster.
